Inforgraphic of the Day: Valet.’s at-a-glance guide to tying scarves.

The key is finding a knot that works with what you’re wearing, sort of like a tie. If you’ve got a suit and topcoat on, you probably don’t want to go with the loose loop.

I’d say I’m somewhere between Basic and Escaped Mental Patient.

NY Times: Kerouac at Bat

Charles McGrath writes: Almost all his life Jack Kerouac had a hobby that even close friends and fellow-Beats like Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs never knew about. He obsessively played a fantasy baseball game of his own invention.

"Does it break my heart, of course, every moment of every day, into more pieces than my heart was made of, I never thought of myself as quiet, much less silent, I never thought about things at all, everything changed, the distance that wedged itself between me and my happiness wasn’t the world, it wasn’t the bombs and burning buildings, it was me, my thinking, the cancer of never letting go, is ignorance bliss, I don’t know, but it’s so painful to think, and tell me, what did thinking ever do for me, to what great place did thinking ever bring me? I think and think and think, I’ve thought myself out of happiness one million times, but never once into it."

i’m listening to sufjan stevens’s illinoise album hoping it will inspire me enough to write some amazing supplemental essays for uchicago.  i love love love absolutely love this album.  when i first listened to it back in.. 2005? when it first came out, it made me want to live in chicago so badly.  the vibe of the album = soo goooooood. shit. haha this music’s so good that it’s distracting me now.

sigh.

I go to the University of Chicago and this is the only album I can actually listen to while writing papers as of lately. Ironically enough, last year while completing those same essays, I had this album on repeat. Best of luck! The supplemental essays seem daunting, but don’t stress over them!

In other news, I have exactly 2 paragraphs left in my final paper of this semester.

This made me cry.
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

You may want to sit down.
